JOHN THEODORE TALBOT FLETCHER

John Fletcher, said to be the father of Ken Matthews

John Theodore Talbot Fletcher [Jock] was born on 25th May 1903, the first-born son of Captain and Mrs. AMT Fletcher of Saltoun.

The bells at Margam and Saltoun were pealed in his honour and the village gaily decorated. Mrs. Fletcher was the beautiful Miss Frances Jane Winnington, daughter of Sir Francis and Lady Winningon of Stanford Court, Worcester, England, granddaughter of Lady Alfred Churchill and cousin of the Duke of Marlborough and Sir Winston Churchill.

John Fletcher had the usual background for someone of his class - Eton, Cambridge and the Army (the Welsh Guards). Yet he had a hard time living up to his father's authoritarian ways and was often reprimanded by his father for mixing with people of a lower class.

He is said to have had a 12-year love affair with Ivy Pinn, a maid at Margam Castle, and his marriage to Nora Gabbett Mullhullen was annulled without issue only two days after Ivy gave birth to Ken Matthews.

John Fletcher never married again and died on 4th April 1995, aged 91, at 17 Theydon Place, Epping, near to the Copped Hall estate (4000 acres) purchased by the Emily Charlotte Talbot Trust in 1951.

There are many pages of research and proofs to be added to this website - Ken Matthews and his wife Penny have discovered so many "coincidences" that it makes disturbing reading.
